There’s a load of waffle about having to reinstall VMM once you move the VMM DB to a new server.

Quite simply these are the steps you need to take:

Take a http://kbsurf.com/mybeafter.php full backup of VMM DB “VirtualManagerDB” from old SQL Server.

Restore the VMM DB “VirtualManagerDB” to new SQL Server.

Assign security permissions to VMM Server and VMM Service accounts on destination SQL Server, DB and verify firewall is not blocking SQL connections. Just look at the User Mapping on the old server and ensure it matches the restored DB on the new SQL Server/Cluster
